Barcelona, 2025 – WtEnergy Advanced Solutions proudly announces the launch of SynTK (Syngas-to-Kiln), the world’s first gasification technology designed specifically for cement production.
This pioneering solution converts waste-derived fuels into a clean, homogeneous Syngas, which is fed directly into the cement kiln to replace fossil fuels such as petcoke or coal. Our project specifically employs RDF, although SynTK technology can also process other alternative fuels such as SRF, biomass, and used tires, among others.
The expected results of this first industrial project in Spain mark a true milestone:
- 30 MWth of fuel substitution
- 90% chlorine reduction and 95% alkali removal
- 55,000 tonnes of CO₂ avoided annually
- Over €5 million in yearly fuel cost savings, with a payback of only 2 years
- Flexibility to produce both grey and white cement without affecting clinker quality
SynTK not only drives the decarbonization of the cement sector, it also enables the safe use of low-cost, widely available fuels, offering a scalable, efficient, and sustainable alternative to today’s energy challenges.
With the Barcelona plant scheduled to begin operations at the end of 2025, WtEnergy Advanced Solutions marks a turning point in the cement industry’s energy transition.
