Four decades in, some things never change …   Then and now.

Great exponential graph 📊 that looks like it will still be around in the singularity, Satya Nadella

Four decades in, and Excel’s gone from spreadsheet to sentient strategist. Agent Mode doesn’t just calculate—it reflects, revises, and reasons like a caffeinated philosopher with a clipboard. But here’s the rub: when AI starts executing tasks, validating itself, and grading its own output, who’s holding the ethical clipboard? Agent Mode promises auditability and transparency—but only within the grid. Outside it? We’re outsourcing judgment to a loop that never sleeps, never questions its purpose, and never asks: “Should I?” It’s brilliant, yes. But brilliance without boundaries is how we end up with cognitive weapons disguised as productivity tools. If AI can now simulate expert fluency, what stops it from simulating authority, consensus, or even truth? And let’s talk power. This isn’t just about helping users—it’s about shaping how knowledge is structured, interpreted, and acted upon. Quietly, Excel becomes not just a tool, but a decision-making proxy. That’s not just innovation. That’s epistemological colonisation. So yes, hats off to the engineers. But someone needs to ask: when the loop reflects, does it ever reflect on us?

40 years of Excel — 40 Years of Excellence! Satya Nadella Tools have come and gone, trends have risen and faded, but Excel has stood the test of time — not just surviving, but continually reinventing itself in ways none of us could have imagined. What hasn’t changed? The lives it makes easier. From the smallest task to the biggest transformation, it’s hard to picture a world running without Excel. Thanks to Microsoft for building this masterpiece and always keeping it ahead of time. Here’s to the past 40 years — and the many more to come

Excel isn’t just a tool, it’s a universal language that has shaped the way businesses make decisions for 40 years. Consistency in innovation is what turns a product into a pillar.

Everything that’s truly good is worth choosing. 😍
