#IndonesianGP: Disappointments, slides and comebacks

DISAPPOINTMENTS, SLIDES AND COMEBACKS.

The enthusiasm was palpable. The desire for redemption was unstoppable. The wish for confirmation after Pecco’s last wonderful performance in Japan was strong, but Indonesia didn’t bring good sensations to our Suomy Rider, right from the start. This weekend ends with a “no comment” resulting from a 14th place in the Sprint Race and a retirement in the Sunday race. Luckily, in Moto2 our Ivàn Ortolà conquered a beautiful and well-deserved seventh place!

SPRINT RACE

Pecco’s grid position wasn’t encouraging: sixteenth. In competitions, however, anything can happen, but in this eighteenth MotoGP weekend, perhaps everything was already somewhat written. Our Suomy Rider alternated between 14th and 16th place, eventually finishing fourteenth. A result certainly not aligned with his potential and abilities, due to poor feeling with the bike in practically every phase of the race, both on straights and in corners. Pecco complained about not being able to find a way to feel at ease with his bike, just as happened at the Misano Grand Prix.

RACE

Mandalika: a 4,301-meter-long circuit, moderately demanding for MotoGP braking systems, stressed for less than 28 seconds. A rather short time, so much so that for Brembo technicians, the Mandalika track has a difficulty index of 3 on a scale from 1 to 6. Despite this, our Pecco encountered difficulties even under braking, not only with setup and during acceleration. On the ninth lap, in an attempt to close the gap with the riders ahead of him, despite poor sensations, Pecco slid out, fortunately without physical consequences. Thus, another weekend goes down in the black book of this 2025 season, but the team and all his fans are already ready to cheer for him and support him at the next appointment on Australian soil.

MOTO 2

The Indonesian weekend for our Ivàn Ortolà was certainly an upward trend. In free practice, the Spanish rider recorded a modest twentieth time, but then in Q2 he managed to climb up to eleventh position, and in the race, he entered the points zone, achieving an excellent seventh place.

“After yesterday, I knew it was going to be a difficult Saturday. Unfortunately, the feeling is not the same as Motegi, but closer to the one I experienced in Misano. I ended up struggling again with the bike, both on the straight and under braking, and the only thing I could do was bring it home. It’s quite a frustrating situation, but the bright side is that I showed my speed in Japan. Now we need to keep working and try to find that feeling again, otherwise it’s going to be another challenging race.”

“It was a very disappointing weekend, especially considering how the previous one went. This has never been an easy track for me, although I’ve always achieved good results here in the past. I’d like to apologise to the team for the crash: I was pushing to try to bridge the gap with the riders ahead, despite the lack of feeling. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to change the momentum of this weekend, but I’m sure that by analysing the data, the engineers will find a solution for the next Grand Prix so I can battle for the top three in the Championship.”
