SISSA, with a unanimous resolution of the Academic Senate, has recently launched a number of measures in relation to the humanitarian and political situation in the Palestinian territories, and in particular in the Gaza Strip. Among other things, the measures provide for the allocation of resources to support Palestinian students and researchers, also within the framework of national and international initiatives.

SISSA has also committed itself to carefully evaluating its scientific collaborations, with the aim of avoiding any form of cooperation that could contribute to the development of military technologies intended for offensive use in warfare, or that could result in human rights violations. In this context, the School recognizes the freedom of conscience of SISSA students and scientific staff with regard to specific collaborations for ethical reasons perceived as seriously contrary to their beliefs, provided that this freedom is employed with mutual respect and without any form of discrimination, direct or indirect, based on gender, sexual orientation, ethnic or national origin, language, religion, political opinion, disability, or other personal or social condition.

The Academic Senate of the School approved the measure, reaffirming the central role of international scientific collaboration as an instrument of peace and progress and the conviction that education, knowledge and research are the seeds of the future of every people. To ensure that this future is not compromised by the systematic destruction of educational and university facilities that has taken place in the Gaza Strip, SISSA has also committed itself to supporting all actions aimed at rebuilding the Palestinian education and research system, as a sign of concrete solidarity with the populations affected by the conflict. The initiative is part of a broader vision of solidarity and international cooperation, in the belief that science represents a bridge to peace and development.
