The tournament will go from having a draw of 48 players to one of 32, which will generate matches between tennis players with higher ATP rankings

One of the great novelties of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell – Trofeo Conde de Godó- for its 72nd edition, which will be held from April 12 to 20, will be a reduction in the number of players who will contest the main draw, generating a higher cut-off ranking to participate. “This edition of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell will have an even more demanding main draw and qualifying draw of the highest level,” emphasized David Ferrer, sports director of the tournament, which has already confirmed the presence of Carlos Alcaraz.

The matches will go up a level by increasing the ranking of the players who will participate. Because of this, the tournament will go from having a draw of 48 players to one of 32, with fewer matches but greater equality and spectacle. “We are thus aligned with the rest of the ATP 500 tournaments with a draw of 32 players and a cut for the main draw higher than the current one,” said Ferrer about this change. The first round of the tournament will be played on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 April, therefore, the top eight seeds will debut on one of these two days.

The qualifying draw is extended from 16 to 24 players and the doubles draw will continue to be 16. The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell works year after year to increase its level and become the great leader for ATP 500 tournaments. Tickets to attend the tournament are selling well and can only be purchased through the official website barcelonaopenbancsabadell.com
