The REPAir project, coordinated by Dr Luca Braga of the Functional Cell Biology Group at ICGEB in Trieste, has received a generous three-year grant from the CRTrieste Foundation.
The REPAir project stems from results obtained by the Braga Group, which have led to the identification of new therapeutic targets capable of stimulating lung tissue regeneration in the pathological context of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The project now aims to extend the effectiveness of these approaches to other chronic respiratory diseases with high clinical impact, which are characterised by alterations in the regenerative processes of the lung.
These results were obtained in close collaboration with the Complex Structure of Pneumology at Cattinara Hospital, directed by Prof. Marco Confalonieri, who provided solid clinical-translational guidance from the early stages and is currently coordinating the project basis for new initiatives aimed at supporting the clinical development of the identified molecules.
The valuable support of the Fondazione CRTrieste will also further strengthen the collaboration between ICGEB and the Complex Structure of Pneumology, helping to make Trieste a centre of excellence for translational respiratory medicine.
