The company, which actively measures its emissions, will use CO2 credits from the 'TIERRAS DE RUEDA I' project in León as it advances its priority reduction strategy.

Zaragoza, September 1, 2025. Libelium, a leading technology company for sustainability, today announced a key step in its environmental strategy: offsetting its own carbon footprint. The company will do this by acquiring CO2 credits from the 'TIERRAS DE RUEDA I' forest absorption project, certified by the MITERD. This action complements its main objective of reducing emissions through pine tree planting in Gradefes (León), which the company already actively calculates as part of its corporate coherence policy.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, Libelium has adopted the official framework proposed by the MITERD for organizations: 'Calculate, Reduce, and Offset' their carbon footprint. The company already rigorously calculates its emissions, allowing it to identify key areas and establish an action plan to minimize its operational impact. Offsetting is presented as a measure of responsibility while broader improvements are being implemented.

The choice of the 'TIERRAS DE RUEDA I' project, located in Gradefes (León), is particularly relevant in the current context, with the devastating forest fires affecting the region, underlining the urgency of restoring and protecting forest masses. Libelium has opted for a national initiative validated by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITERD), guaranteeing maximum transparency and reliability. The project focuses on the reforestation of 5.62 hectares with native species, generating a triple positive impact: environmental, social, and economic in Spanish territory. This forest will be able to absorb 45 tCO2 over 40 years.

"We believe in datocracy, in the power of data to drive coherent actions. Therefore, we cannot offer sustainability solutions to our clients without first applying them in-house," says Alicia Asín, CEO of Libelium. "Following the official framework, we first calculate our impact to be able to reduce it, which is our priority objective. Offsetting is a responsible action as we advance on that path, and doing so through a Spanish, certified project with tangible social impact, demonstrates that data must translate into a real commitment to the planet, especially in times of ecological crisis like the one we are experiencing with fires."

The 'TIERRAS DE RUEDA I' initiative not only contributes to CO2 absorption but also fosters biodiversity, helps reduce soil erosion, and generates local employment, strengthening the socioeconomic fabric of rural areas.
